| For centuries, traditional Persian area rugs have been a symbol of elegance, luxury and wealth throughout the world. Handed down from generation to generation to become classic family heirlooms, their timeless beauty has endured the test of time. The Royal Imperial Collection by Couristan pays homage to the ancient art of rug-making and to the weaving regions in which these handmade masterpieces originated. Meticulously hand-knotted using a Persian Knot, each stunning chrome dyed design offers a sumptuous range of vibrant and vivid hues. Hand-spun yarn of 100% semi-worsted New Zealand wool, provides Royal Imperial with a rich, sensuous patina and a deep, lush pile. Enriched by patterns from classic Persian area rugs, each timeless design in this unique collection will create a dramatic fashion statement in any traditional room-setting. |

Ardabil is a city near the coast of the Caspian Sea, and is probably responsible for one of the oldest and most famous carpets in existence today, the 34' x 17' masterpiece housed in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Ardabil rugs usually have the famous Mahi (Herati) design, with a diamond medallion and small fish throughout. An allover pattern is sometimes seen in an Ardabil. Usually their weavers will incorporate a lot of silk into the woolen pile to accentuate some highlights in the pattern. Some modern Ardabils have started to migrate from the traditional Herati pattern to bolder geometric patterns. In addition to the usual beiges, rusts and blues, many up-to-the-minute colors can be observed in the newer Ardabils, such as a turquoise and purple. |
