All of the carpets in our Nanking collection are hand-knotted in India with a blend of Gazni Afghan and Indian handspun wool, incorporating a high hand twisted base with a light twist in the motif giving an almost 3D effect. The base is made from hand-spun wool and the motif is machine spun this unique combination of weaving is an original developed by Nature’s Looms. Using this combination gives this collection not only a 3D effect but a silky feel as well, completely unique. An original design concept. Nanking now called Nanjing is a city on the eastern coast of China. Because of its location Nanking was a major exporting city, silk being one of the largest. Yun-Jin or, “Cloud Brocade”, silk was and still is one of the most popular silks in the market today. We used this Cloud Brocade idea in our Nanking carpet. Many of the motifs in the carpet are depicting the same cloud motifs used in the famous Yun-Jin silks. |

Kashan is an important city in central Iran, with a magnificent history of carpet weaving dating from the 16th century. Classic pieces show a diamond-shaped medallion with small matching spandrels on a floral field, but all-over fields of Shah Abbas flowers, pictorial and hunting scenes are also found. They are mostly in wool, but some have been woven in pure silk. Traditional theme colors are reds and blues, but more recently Kashans have been woven in paler beiges, with greyish-blue and olive-green tones, for the international market. |
