All of the carpets in our Hana collection are hand-knotted in India with a blend of Gazni Afghan and Indian handspun wool, incorporating a high hand twisted base with a light twist in the motif giving an almost 3D effect. The base is made from hand-spun wool and the motif is machine spun this unique combination of weaving is an original developed by Nature’s Looms. Using this combination gives this collection not only a 3D effect but a silky feel as well, completely unique. An original design concept. Hana is the Japanese word for flower, so it is easy to see why we would name this piece Hana. The field of this carpet is made up of many delicate flowers, as well as an underlying leaf and tendril design. Another unique aspect of this rug is the border. We wanted to design this carpet as close as possible to a floral garden, therefore using a Japanese walkway motif in the border. |

Ardabil is a city near the coast of the Caspian Sea, and is probably responsible for one of the oldest and most famous carpets in existence today, the 34' x 17' masterpiece housed in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Ardabil rugs usually have the famous Mahi (Herati) design, with a diamond medallion and small fish throughout. An allover pattern is sometimes seen in an Ardabil. Usually their weavers will incorporate a lot of silk into the woolen pile to accentuate some highlights in the pattern. Some modern Ardabils have started to migrate from the traditional Herati pattern to bolder geometric patterns. In addition to the usual beiges, rusts and blues, many up-to-the-minute colors can be observed in the newer Ardabils, such as a turquoise and purple. |
